Senior Fluidics Hardware Designer (M/F/D)
Tasks:
- Build and lead the fluidics engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Lead the end-to-end design and development of the single-use fluidic cartridge system, focusing on sample preparation, purification, and precise liquid handling and COGS.
- Drive the design, production, and verification of prototypes (from early concept to pre-production units), utilizing both internal capabilities and managing external manufacturing partners.
- Champion Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles, with a strong emphasis on cost-effective, high-volume production.
- Conduct materials selection and testing, ensuring compatibility and performance for diagnostic applications.
- Collaborate intimately with the biochip team to ensure optimal fluidic integration and system performance and the Hardware team for interfacing the cartridge to a readout device.
- Manage supplier relationships for manufacturing processes, ensuring adherence to quality (GxP) and cost targets.
- Take ownership of product development planning and R&D budgeting for the fluidics subsystem
Qualification:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing and prototyping fluidic systems, preferably for biological or medical applications
- Experience with prototyping methods for fluidic systems, in particular for sample purification and extraction workflows
- Experience with production of consumables for GMP-regulated environments, ideally for diagnostic systems
- Familiarity with material compatibility and biofouling considerations in biological sample handling
- Experience bringing fluidic devices from early-stage prototypes to preproduction, including DfM and scaling considerations
- Excellent problem-solving skills, experimental rigor, and documentation practices
- Proven leadership experience with a strong track record in building and leading high-performing teams
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan and manage product development budgets, timelines, and resources
